I am so excited to meet you and celebrate your little one's first lap of the sun! Congrats to you too, on getting through the first year! I want our time together to be relaxed and fun. In order to make the most of your session, and so you’re fully prepared, I have put together some info across the next few pages to give you an idea of what to expect during the shoot.

Before you arrive, I will have my props and things set up and one you arrive we'll take a moment to say hello and get to know each other a little before we ease into it. If you would like, we can take a few family snaps before your little one gets stuck into the cake.

Sometimes it can take a little bit of time for your littlie to take their first taste of the cake. We might find that they need a little encouragement, so if you're happy to pop a bit of the icing in their mouth to give them the idea.

Once they have had their fill of cake I will get the tub ready for them. I bring bottles of cold and thermoses filled with hot water so we can make the right temperature and bubble bath if you would like me to use that too.

I am so excited to create a fun experience for your little one, and to capture this precious milestone!

Below I have outlined:

1. Questionnaire
You would have received a questionnaire alongside your invoice. Please set aside 10 minutes to complete it for me. This will help me get to know you and will help personalise your session.

3. Planning emails/call
Not everyone will need or require a call, however if you would like to schedule a phone call to help us plan your session, I'd love to chat, otherwise we can communicate via email if that is preferred. Here we will discuss locations and clarify any questions you may have

4. Photoshoot
The ultimate goal is for your little one to have fun and enjoy the experience. The shoot will be very much child-led with lots of fun encouragement!

5. Gallery Delivery
Within 3-4 weeks of your shoot date, I will send you a link to your online gallery where you will be able to view your images and select the Gumnut Collection, or upgrade to the Banksia or Waratah Collections. Within your gallery you will also have access to my print store. You can access the store via the Shop tab. It is filled with beautiful and quality products to choose from. All handmade in Australia and you have the ability to order directly through the gallery.

So you’ve booked your session

Cake Smash & Splash sessions can happen any day of the week. I do like mid-week sessions, however I know that this isn't always possible. My favourite time of day is the hour before sunset. When the sun gets low it creates the most beautiful light and you get some glorious colours. It’s also when the light is most flattering. That’s why I like to schedule our sessions around this time. During daylight savings time, this could be around 6:00/7pm and 4pm during winter. I know that this might not be ideal for your little one, you may like to offer them a later nap, or if you prefer to do an earlier shoot I do offer some flexibility and I am happy to work with you.

I’ll always keep an eye on the weather forecast in the lead up to your ‘shoot and will keep in touch with any updates. We could move the ‘shoot to your home or somewhere indoors instead… Or you could want to reschedule and that’s so fine too. I’m flexible, and we’ll be in touch the whole time.

If you intend to have a few family pics done before your little one gets stuck into the cake, I suggest wearing something that makes you feel good. I find that if you stick to a bit of a colour palatte working with complementary colours this works really well, so think about what colour your little one will be wearing for their cake smash and what you could wear to complement that. Also have a think about texture and movement, as this adds depth and interest to the photos. Please dont feel the need to all be matching, and avoid any large logos or licensed clothing.

In the lead up to the session we will chat about what props I will use and what colour scheme you have in mind, and during these chats we can discuss what kind of outfit to dress your little one in, if you haven't decided. If you have any special items you'd like to include, you're welcome to bring them.

Along with the cake, please bring along with you a change of clothes and a towel for them to dry off and change into after their bath.

To help us have every chance for great photos, I recommend making sure your little one has eaten somewhat recently and rested well during the day. Feel free to bring some water for them to drink as well.

Please arrive and be ready to start on time! Remember, your session is scheduled according to the light and, unfortunately, the sun will not wait for us (rude, I know!). Please take traffic and parking into consideration in your planning. If in doubt, it’s best to arrive early.

"We had such a great experience with Lisa. Our photos turned out amazing and she captured our crazy kids in their own wild ways. The shoot was fun and not too posed/stressful. We love our photos and will definitely use Lisa again.”
